ICSI Structure

CSEET vs CS Executive: Complete ICSI Course Structure Explained

Published 2026-08-03 ยท 6 min read ยท By CS Rankers Faculty Team

ICSI structures the Company Secretary qualification into three progressive stages โ€” CSEET, CS Executive and CS Professional. Understanding how the first two connect is the most common point of confusion for new aspirants, so here's a clear breakdown.

Where CSEET Fits In

The CS Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) is the mandatory gateway into the CS course for students entering after Class 12. It is not a "level" of the CS qualification itself โ€” it is a qualifying entrance test that clears you to register for CS Executive. ICSI restructured CSEET from the June 2026 session โ€” see our complete CSEET guide for the current pattern.

  • Eligibility: Class 12 pass/appearing (any stream) or equivalent, subject to current ICSI rules
  • Papers (current structure): Business Communication, Fundamentals of Accounting, Economic & Business Environment โ€” all subjective โ€” plus Business Laws and Management, which is OMR-based
  • Duration to prepare: 1โ€“3 months is typical with focused coaching
  • Frequency: Three sessions a year โ€” February, June and October

CS Executive: The First Substantive Stage

CS Executive is where the real professional curriculum begins. Graduates can enter this stage directly (with exemptions on certain papers), while CSEET-qualified students proceed here after clearing the entrance test.

  • Eligibility: CSEET pass, or graduates with applicable exemptions
  • Papers: 7 papers across 2 modules โ€” Company Law, Setting up of Business, Tax, Corporate Accounting, Capital Markets, Economic & Commercial Laws, and Financial & Strategic Management
  • Duration: 9โ€“12 months of preparation
  • Exam sessions: June and December, conducted by ICSI

Which Should You Register For?

If you've just finished Class 12, start with CSEET โ€” it's designed as your entry point and cannot be skipped. If you're already a graduate, you can register directly for CS Executive and save time. Either way, both stages are taught at CS Rankers with dedicated subject-expert faculty and ICSI-pattern mock tests.
