CS Course Full Details 2026: Eligibility, Fees & Career Scope
The Company Secretary (CS) course is a professional qualification awarded by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), a statutory body set up under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980. It trains students to become experts in corporate law, governance and statutory compliance โ a role that is legally mandatory for companies above prescribed thresholds under the Companies Act, 2013.
Who Is Eligible for the CS Course?
Eligibility depends on which entry point you use:
- CSEET route: Any student who has passed Class 12 (any stream) can register for CSEET, the mandatory entrance test for the CS course.
- Direct entry (graduates): Graduates from a recognised university can enter directly into CS Executive, subject to applicable exemptions on certain papers.
- No age limit: There is no upper age restriction, making CS accessible to working professionals as well as fresh Class 12 graduates.
Course Duration & Structure
The CS course is completed in three progressive stages prescribed by ICSI:
- CSEET โ entrance test (4 papers), typically 1โ3 months of preparation. Held three times a year โ February, June and October.
- CS Executive โ 7 papers across 2 modules, roughly 6โ9 months.
- CS Professional โ 7 papers across 2 groups (including electives) plus mandatory practical training, roughly 6โ9 months.
On average, motivated students complete the entire journey โ CSEET through Professional, including training โ in about 3 years. CS Executive and CS Professional are held in the June and December ICSI exam sessions.
Indicative Fee Range
ICSI registration and exam fees are set centrally by the Institute and are typically far lower than professional courses like engineering or an MBA. Coaching fees vary by institute, learning mode (classroom, online live, or recordings) and course level.
